Sallie Mae conducted a study in 2009 that showed that 84 percent of undergrads had credit cards. Then by 2016, 56 percent of students had credit cards.

Here are some tips for those who are planning to bring credit cards to college.

  1. Find cards that are made for students.
  2. Understand what goes into borrowing.
  3. Keep your balances low so you can easily pay them off.
  4. Continue working toward building up your credit score.
  5. Don’t go over the top and spend excessively where you don’t need to.
